Is your internet service provider down?

The first point of call if you can’t access the internet should be to check if your provider is down. As NBN users can attest, individual ISPs can experience outages, and this is obviously not the fault of any individual household.

The easiest way to figure out if this is the current issue is to check if multiple devices cannot connect to the internet. If so, go to your ISP’s website or one of their major social media outlets. Usually at least one of them will indicate if a network outage has occurred. If the provider made no mention of an outage, there are a plethora of external websites that list network outages, such as Down Detector or Is The Service Down?.

Is your modem/router the problem?

If your provider made no mention of an outage, the problem may be with your modem, router, or modem/router. Sometimes the device may need to breathe, so be sure to turn it off and unplug it from its power source for at least ten minutes. After this pause, turn it back on and let your devices reconnect.
