Halo Infinite Dev Explains Why Forge Requires an Internet Connection

0

Forge mode was once available offline before Halo titles, causing many active gamers to wonder why Return Mode relies on an internet connection in Infinite Halo. 343 Industries have seen a lot of discussion around mode in the Infinite Halo community, Michael Schorr, lead designer of Forge, decided to explain the reasoning behind Forge mode requiring a stable internet connection.

On Twitter, Schorr went into detail about Halo Infinite Forge mode, its reliance on internet connection and server usage. The Forge mode map creation process generates a ton of data, and Halo Infinite Online servers enhance the experience by directly managing the data download process. Baking maps involves various assets such as lighting, navigation mesh, audio, and other forms of necessary data, so servers speed up asset creation. Coincidently, Infinite Halo data consumed by other players and uploaded to 343 Industries’ dedicated servers must be secure according to Schorr. Stable internet connections are required to facilitate the various Forge Mode processes without users being able to introduce malicious content into the game.

Since Infinite Halo is available on PC, 343 Industries cannot trust saved content coming directly from a user’s local storage because malicious data can slip into the game’s online services. Schorr explains that Halo Infinite dedicated servers protect players from suspicious data that may be slipped into the map data. Additionally, Forge mode allows players to enter and exit continuous sessions, and the team leader may leave without completing the entire session due to the game’s online capabilities. Therefore, Forge mode relies on Internet connectivity to protect Infinite Halo players and preserve the base experience.

Core Forge mode features, such as saving and publishing maps, are dependent on internet connections. In reality, Infinite Halo players cannot connect to 343 Industries servers to access Forge Mode without a stable internet connection. Many users have advocated an offline setting in Forge mode, as progress can be lost if connectivity issues occur.

Halo Infinite The post-launch issues persist nearly a year after launch, and Forge Mode was meant to be a feature that would lift the spirits of the player base. Although Infinite Halo can benefit from dedicated servers and online features, fans of classic Forge mode cannot play the mode as originally intended in previous titles.

The current situation around Forge Mode adds to the community’s dissatisfaction with the cancellation of Halo Infinite split-screen cooperation. If nothing else, 343 Industries has rolled out the biggest update yet to Infinite Haloand more content is on the way, including a battle royale mode.

Infinite Halo is now available for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
